THE PLACE River Rock Vineyard, now Le Mani, was planted on its own roots in 2001 within the ancient alluvial fan of The Rocks District. Deep basalt cobbles absorb and radiate heat throughout the growing season. Block Six gives a dark-fruited, savory expression of Syrah, with the saline, stony character associated with the district.
TASTING NOTES Blackberry and black plum form the fruit core, with black olive, cured meat, violet and charcoal layered around them. At first, a fine reductive character lends a savory edge. With air, the dark fruit becomes clearer and more generous, joined by graphite, iron and a faint note of orange peel. The palate is dense and supple, with fine tannins, freshness and a saline mineral line through the finish.

IN YOUR GLASS Give this one air. Its savory side shows first, then the dark fruit comes increasingly into focus. A decanter will accelerate that evolution, but watching it unfold slowly in the glass is part of the pleasure.
